We know based on brain scan technology that like all other drugs of abuse, chronic use of alcohol fundamentally changes the brain. What tells you that you're brain is changed is craving for alcohol which occurs when alcohol is stopped. Craving happens in the same part of the brain (called The Limbic System) as hunger and thirst. Without both psychological and medication support it is difficult to over come.

Most people who drink alcohol do it in a responsible manner and will discontinue its use when confronted with a consequence such as marital issues, medical disorders, or criminal justice system issues like DUI's.

Alcoholism is defined as any individual regardless of frequency, amount, or duration who will continue in spite if these consequences. If you are reading this article the chances are that you or one you care about meets this definition. The good news is that we can help in the process of recovery.

The first question when stopping the use of alcohol is:  Will there be withdrawal? Five percent of patients who abruptly stop the use of alcohol are at risk of a seizure. For this reason we coordinate an added evaluation from Community Bridges before admission to our program. Other issues early in alcohol recovery include vitamin B 12 deficiency as well as foliate deficiency which should be evaluated by you're doctor. At intake our doctor will decide whether you need detox or other medical support before starting this program.

Our treatment focuses on 3 areas:
Medication treatment
Prescribing and monitoring the proper medication based on the doctor's evaluation of your individual needs.
Counseling
Counseling focuses on what is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as a technique called Motivational Interviewing. Both of these techniques can help in changing the way you process information leading to non-drug use outcomes.
Coordinated Support
CMS recommends and will coordinate12 step support along with our counseling.
Our treatments are tailored to the varied needs of each individual.
